Australia's newest political party - and why you should join us

Our goal is to represent the voiceless parents, families and carers of Australia. We are the bedrock social unit in our country, the key to social well-being, and the wellspring of personal belonging and identity. Yet we have no voice in our nation's affairs. We are unrepresented in parliaments and excluded from public decision-making. Our goal is to change this and shift the balance of power in society.

The things that matter most to us - families, neighbourhoods, caring for others, voluntary activity, self-development and the character of people, local economies, local communities - are the things that matter least to our politicians. Political parties of both Right and Left have ignored social relationships for a century in their obsession with the market and the state. Neo-liberalism on the Right (the rule of the market) and managerialism on the Left (the rule of bureaucracy) have dominated politics. Together they have corroded society, undermined personal and social responsibility, weakened community, and turned unique individuals into clients, beneficiaries, customers and labourers, detached from their relationships and communities.

Social relationships - not the market, or the state - should be the prism through which we assess policy. This is common sense. This is the Australian tradition. Neither Left nor Right. We warmly invite you to join us.

Victorian State Election Candidates - Expression of Interest

Use the form below to express your interest in standing as a candidate in the Victorian state election on 27 November 2010.

The Parents Families and Carers Party will stand a team of two candidates in each of the eight Upper House regions. In each of these regions, five people will be elected as in the Senate. In effect, the Upper House election consists of eight Senate-style elections around the state, and the battle is on for the fifth position in each region. In 2006, the Democratic Labor Party won an Upper House seat in Western Region with just 2% of the primary vote.

Sixteen candidates are sought who will make a serious bid for election.

The regions are:

Eastern Metropolitan Region
Eastern Victoria Region
Northern Metropolitan Region
Northern Victoria Region
South Eastern Metropolitan Region
Southern Metropolitan Region
Western Metropolitan Region
Western Victoria Region

Details on the Upper House regions are available here at the Victorian Electoral Commission website.

People with an interest in being candidates should be able to satisfy the following criteria:

1. Demonstrate a motivation that is not about ego or self-promotion but is about advancing social change and empowerment of parents, families and carers and other voiceless Australians;

2. Be able to support and promote the policies and philosophy of the Parents Families and Carers Party; and

3. Demonstrate an ability as a self-starter and a capacity to work in a team.

Use this form to submit your expression of interest.

Please read the 12 Reasons ... Declaration and Code of Conduct and indicate your agreement with them in the form below.

You must also declare that you are not a member of any other political party.

Please feel free to also send background material about yourself, papers you have written, or a CV if you wish. Please forward these to:
